Genre Snobs

Posted in General Comments with tags , , , , , , on March 29, 2008 by totahadmin

ClandestineTo all of those who only listen to one genre of music and bash everything else, you know nothing about music. I am especially talking to you death metal freaks. You don’t have to like anything else but stop bashing it. A true music lover embrases the good in all music. I know there is mounds of crap out there but each genre has something you can learn from. Don’t be afraid to slap on a Barry Manilow record when your friends are over hanging out.

For a long time I used to bash pop music, but I am learning to listen to it for what it was originally intended. Pop artists used to perform for the joy of music and there is a hint of that joy in the music they play on the radio and MTV.

The other day I heard a metal head bashing an “emo” band. When you take the label from the music you can’t even tell the difference between metal and the so called “emo” band that he was bashing.

So to all you genre snobs… pull your head out and stop being afraid of what your friends might think when they see Air Supply on your iPod.

Front Row at The TotahI’m tired of people sitting on the couch or at the computer complaining there is nothing to do. If you are one of those people, LISTEN UP! I have spent every penny I own and the last four years of my life to bring you something to do. It is the Totah Theatre. We are bringing bands in from all over the world to play. Some, you may have heard of but most of them you haven’t. That is the point of having a live venue. Turn off the radio, log off of the computer, get off of the couch and get down to the Totah. Some of these “no name” bands will blow your socks off! Here is a chance to meet new people, talk to the bands, hang out with old friends and enjoy good, old fashioned, face to face socializing.

Keep checking www.thetotah.com for upcoming shows. We will try to post all the bands websites so you can get an idea of what they sound like before you come.

Support local entertainment before it disapears.

Business Education Through the Arts (BETTA Inc.), a non-profit organization, is forming and is going to  be calling The Totah home. They will be using The Totah as a training ground for students interested in learning how to manage and operate a functioning performance hall. Students will learn accounting, marketing, technical theatre, concessions, management and much more. In doing this, BETTA Inc. hopes to strengthen Farmington’s workforce by providing trained employees to local companies.
